René Schmidt retired from teaching and now works part time as director of Brighton's Beacon Youth Centre. In his spare time he cuts wood, drives his tractor, and rides his motorcycle. He tries to write daily. René is happily married to Shirley and has two sons who now travel the world and do interesting jobs.
He studied Theatre Performance at Ryerson and is a graduate of York University's Creative Writing Program and Faculty of Education. René is a member of the Writer’s Union of Canada and CANSCAIP and is the author of five popular books. He began writing children’s books using the names of his students as the heroes.
