GET the GOAT
A FUN-draiser by Quinte Youth Unlimited (YFC) to support a local not-for-profit youth charity.
What is Get the Goat? This is a fundraiser event where people get nominated to have a real live GOAT delivered to their lawn on Saturday June 5. When you are nominated your name goes on the "goat list". In order to remove your name, make a donation to a local not-for-profit youth charity. You can also nominate a friend for a small donation.
We hope this event will: 1. To put a smile on the face for everyone that participates 2. To help raise funds for a local youth not-for-profit charity (info below) |
How it works?First, you get nominated to Get the Goat. If you are nominated, you will receive an email. This is a fun way for friends to interact while we are all stuck at home. Think of it like a mix between the game hot potato and an email forward of a funny joke that ends with someone getting a live goat delivered to their house!
Second, you complete the form if you want to Get rid of the Goat. Use the simple Get the Goat form to commit to give a $20 donation to get off the Goat List. We like to think of it as a goat antidote. If you don't buy the antidote, your name will stay on the Goat List. Then one name from the Goat List will be randomly selected to get a goat delivered to their house on Saturday June 5th. Who knows - some people might actually want the goat :) Third, you can nominate a friend to Get the Goat. Use the simple form to promote the goat. You will need to enter your friends name, email, phone number, and a short message. You can nominate up to 4 friends. When you click submit, they will automatically get an email with a message explaining what it is and how to get the goat antidote. Hopefully this will make them smile and spread a smile to others. Finally, watch live on Saturday June 5th as we randomly select one name from the Goat List (those who did not Get rid of the Goat). Watch while we deliver the goat to the house, along with lots of other fun stuff, and some information about what QYU does. We hope it will bring a smile to your face and help you understand how you can help youth! |
Who is running Get the Goat? |
Q&A |
Quinte Youth Unlimited (QYU) is a Christian local not-for-profit youth charity. We offer hope and opportunities for youth to live life to the fullest. Since we have a stay at home order and we couldn't run our usual spring fundraiser - we decided to run this event to (1) make people smile while (2) supporting a worthy cause. Learn more about what QYU does at www.QYU.ca.

Is this some kind of scam?
No, but we understand that some people might think that. Honestly, if you get an email asking you to pay to not get a goat, you might think it was sent from a Nigerian Prince. We ask that you nominate your own friends because you will likely trust someone you already know, in case you've never heard of QYU. Then you can ask your friend if it's real and if they sent it. Our intention is not to trick anyone into making a donation. Our goals are simply to (1) make you smile and (2) raise funds for QYU. For those don't like this kind of thing, we provide an OPT OUT form. WHAT will you do with my contact info?
Your contact info will not be shared or used for any other purpose than the reason you gave it. In other words we will not spam you with unwanted messages or solicitations unless you sign up to get that information. You can read our Donation and Privacy Policy here What if someone doesn't know they're nominated?
That's why we also ask for their phone number. If someone doesn't fill out the form before the Goat delivery day, we will call them and confirm that they know. Also, when you nominate someone they will know that it's you who nominated them. We encourage you to call or text those you nominate so they aren't caught off guard. why are you using a goat?
Goats are easier than elephants. Seriously though, this is not our idea. We heard an idea called "Goat Insurance" years ago and thought it would be a fun way to raise funds. The pandemic is a perfect time for it because it's all done by email. That's fine. But we'd like you to consider 2 things: First, this is a fundraiser to support a youth charity. You don't have to buy the antidote, but please consider nominating friends or making a donation to help. By all means you can keep your name on the goat list. Second, do you know what a goat could do to your front lawn? Check out this article from Prairie Homestead about reasons you don't want a goat. #5 might change your mind. What if i don't want to participate?
There are 2 things you can do: 1. If you don't want to donate but you don't mind playing, just do nothing. Your name will stay on the GET the GOAT list, and on June 5 one person from that list will get a goat delivered to their house. Who knows, maybe you want the goat! 2. If you don't want any part of this, that's okay. You can opt out by clicking here with no donation and we will remove your name from the list. We won't force anyone to play a game. We hope you still smile though and consider helping youth who are struggling. Maybe you should tell the person that nominated you that you don't like goats :) |
